CULTIVATE – growing an inclusive teaching environment.
Dr Lynda Yorke (PI), Dr Simon M Hutchinson (Co-I, Salford) and Dr Liz Hurrell (Co-I, York). The project is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) (NE/W007614/1: CULTIVATE).
CULTIVATE is a NERC project addressing issues of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within Environmental Sciences through the application of digital technologies in undergraduate (field work) teaching. The project is a concerted move away from working in discipline silos to the co-production of knowledge and practices by the community for the community. The project runs for 6 months from December 2021 until May 2022, and addresses NERC’s commitment to: Social responsibility - engaging and supporting our community, while promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the environmental science sector.
A key outcome of the project will be a repository of information, experiences and resources that is accessible across the field of the environmental sciences. Our key focus is on field work as a key element, but also potential barrier, in many areas of environmental science. CULTIVATE builds on a UKRI digital sprint event in September/October 2021, where a beta version of the repository was developed.
