This does not specifically relate to field work, but it is an initiative we have included in our induction week programmes.
We now have a specific student induction session on EDI and respect for others. We signpost students to all the support that is available to them on campus (as we have always done) but we also now have some slides that highlight that EDI is something that we as a department work hard to include. We also emphasise that EDI is not just something that staff should be driving but something that they, the students, need to embed as well. We make EDI explicit from the start of their time at university and highlight that it is everyone's responsibility.
