I think there is a bit of politics around fieldwork.
Fieldwork is something that is a very strong value for some people in the geography/Environmental Science/Geosciences disciplines. Sometimes if you bring up virtual fieldwork you can almost get an almost polemic reactions because it is not the real thing, it could never be the real thing. But this reaction is something we need to work on because we need to be addressing and engaging students with a range of needs and virtual fieldwork is one option.
