In our department, we have several trans-students coming through the degree scheme.
Currently we don’t have any support or guidance around accommodation, how the students might feel working in particular environments, nor how other students on the cohort might feel about, for example, sharing rooms/toilets/shower facilities or anything else might need addressing. This is something we are asking for support for and from experts. We can talk to the students, and we can come up with our own ideas, but we do not have training or expertise. I think it’s the support for staff in producing inclusive, equitable fieldtrips which is sometimes missing. I think there is a lot of good work from individuals around the country and as staff we try out very best to make the fieldtrips as good as possible for all students, often taking a lot of time and energy. But seeking support both practically and emotionally from experts within the university is important for staff to do.
